Mayo Clinic ProPilot Program

We are very pleased to announce that the Embraer Jet Operators Association now has a formal relationship with the world-renowned Mayo Clinic that will benefit association members. Mayo has a new ProPilot program based on the concept of keeping you healthy and flying as PIC.

Many pilots avoid medical exams, even preventive services, because they fear losing their FAA medical certificates. This avoidance often results in receiving substandard medical care. Unaddressed medical needs are a far greater risk to a pilot's career than well-planned preventive and aviation examinations. The best insurance for protection against unexpected medical issues that could threaten your aviation medical certificate is to become involved with a program of early detection.

That is the core of the Mayo Clinic's ProPilot Program. It offers high-quality aviation medical certification exams paired with preventive health screening and, if necessary, treatment, all coordinated and conducted at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Mayo is prepared to offer Embraer Jet Operators Association members a first-year $200 discount on the ProPilot $395 annual administrative fee, which includes a medical records review, flight physical, and other important benefits. The program is for individuals who are members of EJOA, and flight department members.

Here is a summary of services that the Mayo Clinic provides for the administrative fee:

  • Collecting medical information before the appointment
  • Streamlining the itinerary
  • Offering special amenities during the visit, such as preferential rates at a nearby hotel, a personal locker and free wi-fi
  • Expediting subspecialty evaluations
  • Conducting all medical record reviews
  • Performing an annual FAA flight physical
  • Expediting medical waivers by contacting the FAA on behalf of pilots
  • Providing you with an annual summary

Discrete Preventive Medical Exam

When you enroll in the Mayo Clinic ProPilot program, you are offered a comprehensive, expedited and discrete medical examination and preventive health screening. The preventive exam includes:

  • A full range of preventive screening tests using accepted national guidelines tailored to your needs
  • A review and update of medications and immunizations, including those needed for international travel
  • A lifestyle assessment to discuss your approach to nutrition, stress management, alcohol and tobacco use, exercise, personal safety, and other indicators of disease risk
  • A full report of your test results -- usually available electronically on the day of your exam -- reviewed with you by our staff, as well as a written report mailed to your home
  • Access to resources to help you promote your own health and wellness, to resolve or prevent burnout, and to cultivate resilience over the course of your flying career
  • Access to integrative medicine services such as acupuncture and massage

Efficient assessment of medical conditions that may jeopardize your ability to pilot an aircraft

Pilots with medical needs are seen by a Mayo Clinic physician-led team that draws on the expertise of physicians from multiple specialties, including colleagues in cardiology, oncology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, orthopedics, gastroenterology, neurology, and psychiatry and psychology. The exam includes:

  • Rapid diagnosis and treatment recommendations
  • Access to resources to help you promote your own health and wellness, to resolve or prevent injuries or chronic conditions, and to cultivate resilience over the course of your career
  • Referrals for one-on- one counseling if you're dealing with depression, anger or substance abuse
